Hey, young person, “What are you going to do with your life?”

  1. “I want to be a fireman“. You know lost people can put out a fire – wouldn’t you like to put out eternal fires?

 

  1. “I want to be a doctor“. You know lost lost people can be doctors and fix a body – wouldn’t you like to see souls saved and serving God?

 

  1. “I want to be a builder“. You know lost lost people can build buildings – wouldn’t you like to build the Lord’s kingdom?

 

  1. “I want to be famous (sports player, musician, etc.)“. You know lost people can have a name in the world and win temporal prizes – wouldn’t it be better to work on and obtain eternal prizes?

 

  1. “I want to be in the armed forces“. You know lost people can be in the armed forces – wouldn’t it be awesome to be on the front lines as a soldier of Jesus Christ?

 

 

If you want to be used of God, it’s time to:

 

  1. Get busy! Start inviting people and getting involved in your church now!

 

  1. Begin to prepare your life! Come to the Our Generation Training Center for 1 year and let God lead you to the next step. A call to service is a call to prepare!

 

  1. Surround yourself around people who are consumed with serving God – Our Generation Camp every June (Trenton, GA) and Our Generation Summit every December/January (Gatlinburg, TN). The team of missionaries associated with Vision Baptist Missions is fired up, excited and serious about serving God.

Excuses for not being a Missionary

  1. “But I’m not called”

You don’t know how many people I’ve met who have said to me “I agree that more people need to go to the mission field, but I’ve never heard God tell me to go.”

Well, the truth is that God has already told you to go in His Word. In fact, He commands you to go… “Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15) That’s right… YOU ARE CALLED!

In fact, if you don’t go, you need a specific calling from God to stay home. Has God definitely told you not to “go” somewhere outside your country to preach the Gospel? If He hasn’t, then you’d better start praying WHERE to go, instead of IF you should go – for again, you’re already called!

  1. “But God needs people to stay here to be a witness to those lost in America. There’s enough need right here!”

It is true that God has called some people to stay right where they are to be witnesses for Jesus in their daily lives and professions. But again, God is merciful and just. Since America has only about 5% of the world’s population, then only about 5% of the believers would really be called to stay in this country as a witness ( that’s only about 1 out of 20) while the rest of us should go into the parts of the world where there are almost 0% believers. (In Albania, for instance, there are only “a handful” of known believers in the whole country of 2.7 million people – less than 1/2 of 1/1000th percent!!) Enquiry into our Obligation

William Carey said “THE impediments in the way of carrying the gospel among the heathen must arise, I think, from one or other of the following things; either their distance from us, their barbarious and savage manner of living, the danger of being killed by them, the difficulty of procuring the necessaries of life, or the unintelligibleness of their languages.”

Not much has changed since William Carey’s day with respect to why we do not go.  In his statement is the pattern for why we also have failed to evangelize our neighbours.  Continue reading “Enquiry into our Obligation”

Bible Principles of Faith Promise Giving

Taken from a book mark/brochure used by many churches for Missions Conferences (original author not known)

1.) It is Scriptural

In the Old Testament we find that the people gave over and above their tithes. As God blessed them, they gave to God and to His work.

In the New Testament the Apostle Paul received gifts of various churches. These gifts were special offerings which were collected and given to the work of the Lord. The words “gift”, “bounty”, “abundance”, and “willingly”, are all words which he uses to characterize this giving. In the book of II Corinthians 9:6-7, we read, “He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

2.) It is a source of God’s provision and blessing.

Faith Promise giving is “willing” giving. It is never required. The giver must be sensitive to God and open to what He will do through us. One of the great blessings of the Christian life is to allow God to work through us in meeting the needs of others’ lives. Faith Promise provides the opportunity for us to become personally involved in giving to help spread the Gospel to those who are without Jesus Christ. Ambassadors to the Missionaries at your church:

How to greet the missionary By John Pearson

  1. Familiarize yourself with them:
    • The family names: Use the prayer card if possible to learn all the family member’s names.
    • Special dates: Be sensitive to any dates that fall this week, or close to this week and have them recognized.
    • Read the missionaries last prayer letter and familiarize yourself with the events in their lives. Talk to them about the things going on.
    • Familiarize yourselves with their country. (Google search for their country on the web)  Just a few minutes will give you the info you need.
    • Familiarize yourself with their recent prayer requests.
    • Pass this information along to your family and train them to all greet the family.
    • Prepare a personalized welcome for them.
  1. Greeting:
    • Be at the church early. The missionaries will arrive early to set up.  Don’t come late.
    • Dress like Sunday. Ties for men.
    • Help them set up.

Yokefellow Ministry

A ministry taught at Vision Baptist Church in Alpharetta, GA – we have many missionary families sent from our church and each family has a “yokefellow”, someone who yokes up alongside them.

Acts 14:26-28 – “And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. 28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.”

  • All we can do is recommend a missionary to the grace of 
God to do the work that He has called them to do
  • We trust them that God has clearly directed their path to 
their current ministry
  • They are promising to give themselves totally to carrying out the ministry that God has given them no matter how hard or discouraging it gets
  • They look forward to being able to come and tell us how God has worked in their ministry to His honor and glory
  • We ask them to promise to call or write us when they get discouraged instead of allowing Satan to win the victory in their life
  • They acknowledge that they believe that they are being sent out of Vision to accomplish the purpose God has for our church and that they are going in our place
  • As a church Vision must commit to love, support, and pray for these families

Steps to Take to Determine if God has Called You to the Mission Field

  1. Pray and read God’s Word on a daily basis. God speaks to us and guides us through His Word. (Ps. 119:105)
  2. Read everything you can get your hands on about missions, missionaries, and the needs of the world.
  3. Get involved in the missions program of your local church through praying, giving, and soul-winning.
  4. Go hear every missionary preacher that you can. God may use preaching to clarify His calling in your life.
  5. Talk to your pastor. Letting him know how God is dealing with your heart and asking him to pray for you will help you and give you specific guidance.
  6. Involve yourself in the ministries of your local church. The training and experience that you receive will be the foundation for a lifetime of service.
  7. Go on a missions trip. There are many opportunities to do so through the VBM missions trips during the summer months. Contact us if you are interested in taking a missions trip.

Why have a Missions Conference at your Church?

Probably only 30% of Baptist churches hold an annual missions conference. Of course there are different emphasis, theories, and “ways” in ministry, but I want to share a few ideas of why an annual missions conference can be a help and blessing to your church.

  1. The conference will help put missions in front of the people. Don’t forget that we are to be witnesses in our Jerusalem as well as in the uttermost parts.
  1. The conference places a healthy role model for the church. We get what we honor. If we bring in missionaries and let them share their burdens for the lost around the world, our children may look up to them and want to be like them. We all agree we need more laborers, but if we don’t show examples of what laborers are we can’t get upset that the people are not surrendering.
